The Donna Portals Review: Is This Design Hotel in Mallorca Worth a Winter Stay?

In this article
Mallorca is busy in summer and surprisingly peaceful in winter, when the light is softer and the coastal roads are quiet. That makes the off-season a good time for a short wellness break, as long as the hotel itself is worth staying in rather than just a base. The Donna Portals is a five-star boutique hotel in Portals Nous, on the south-west coast near Palma, with 64 rooms and suites designed by Marcel Wanders.
I would judge a hotel like this by the room you would actually book, what is included in the price, and the cancellation terms. Design hotels often photograph beautifully, but the details of a booking decide whether a stay feels good value.
Location and design
The hotel is on Carrer Falconer in CalviĂ , less than 50 metres from the sea, according to the FAQ. Portals Nous is known for its marina and is a short drive from Palma, making it practical for a break that combines rest with a little city time. The interiors are by Marcel Wanders, the Dutch designer known for bold, playful pieces, which gives the hotel a distinctive look.
Rooms and suites
The entry-level Marcel Wanders Room measures 28 to 35 square metres with a king bed. Executive rooms are 35 to 40 square metres with a private balcony, and Junior Suites are 40 square metres with a bathtub and either a balcony or terrace, in panorama or beach-view versions. Higher up the range are a 45-square-metre Penthouse with a terrace of the same size and a whirlpool, a 60-square-metre Spa Suite with a private sauna and an 80-square-metre Beach House with two bedrooms and direct beach access.
The rooms page links the Marcel Wanders Room and the Executive to the same booking code, so confirm which room type you are booking before paying.
The winter wellness package
From 1 November 2026 to 25 March 2027, the hotel offers a Winter Wellness package with a minimum stay of three nights. It includes breakfast and lunch daily, but not dinner, plus one 60-minute Donna Signature treatment and one 60-minute antioxidant facial per person per stay. The offer is non-refundable and subject to availability.
Non-refundable rates are usually cheaper, but they leave no room for changed plans. If your dates might move, compare it with a flexible rate even if it costs more. Christmas and New Year packages are also mentioned, without full inclusions on the pages I read.
Practical details
Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by noon. There is private parking with an EV charging station, with availability and fees to be confirmed when booking. An airport shuttle is available for an extra charge. Pets are accepted on request for €45 per animal per day. WiFi is free, room service runs around the clock, the outdoor pool is open all year and the gym is available 24 hours.
I did not find a statement on whether the hotel is adults-only, so families should ask before booking.
Prices and booking
The pages I read did not show nightly rates, which are handled by an external booking engine. The homepage mentions an early-booking offer of 20 percent for reservations made 30 days ahead, without full terms. I would compare the hotel's own rate with the same dates elsewhere and read the cancellation conditions on the booking screen carefully.
For illustration, if a three-night winter package costs €900 for two, including two treatments each and two meals a day, that would be €150 per person per night. That is a budgeting example, not a quoted price.
Who it suits best
The hotel looks best suited to couples and small groups who value design, a pool open all year and easy access to the sea and Palma. The Beach House suits a family or two couples travelling together, while the Spa Suite fits anyone planning a wellness-focused break. Travellers who want to explore the island widely may still prefer to hire a car, since transfers and parking come at extra cost.
My verdict
The Donna Portals looks like an appealing choice for couples who want a design-led, sea-close hotel near Palma, particularly in the quieter winter months when the wellness package adds treatments and meals. The non-refundable package terms, the unpublished general cancellation policy and the extra costs for parking and transfers are worth checking first. I have not stayed at the hotel, so service, noise and room comfort remain untested here.
If I were booking, I would choose the room type carefully, confirm what the rate includes and only pick a non-refundable rate once my dates were fixed. A hotel stay earns its price through rest and good service, not through how dramatic the lobby looks.
