Tossable Digits Review: Is a Virtual Second Phone Number Worth Paying For?

Giving out your personal mobile number has become a small act of trust. Once it is on a classified ad, a business card or a dating profile, it tends to stay out there. A second number solves that, and there are many ways to get one, from a second SIM to free apps. Tossable Digits is a long-running paid service that adds virtual numbers to an existing phone, forwarding calls and texts so you never have to reveal your real number.
I would judge a service like this by what you need the number for, how many minutes you will use and how easy it is to leave. A virtual number earns its monthly fee when it saves time or protects privacy, not when it sits unused on a plan you forgot about.
How the service works
Tossable Digits assigns you a number that rings through to your normal phone. Callers see the virtual number, and the FAQ says your real number stays private. The homepage positions it for sales, advertising tracking, work, real estate and general privacy, and lets you add several numbers to one phone.
Because calls are forwarded rather than handled in a separate app, the experience should feel like using your ordinary phone. You do not need a second device or SIM.
Plans and pricing
Monthly plans are clearly listed. Pay-as-you-go costs $3.49 per number plus 12 cents a minute. Basic is $7 a month with one number, 60 minutes and unlimited US and Canada texts. Advanced is $19 with three numbers and 400 minutes, and Professional is $39 with seven numbers and 1,000 minutes. Extra numbers and minutes are priced per plan.
Annual plans are also available, from a $40 Lite plan to a $429 Professional plan, although the annual Basic plan lists different allowances from the monthly Basic plan, so read each one carefully. International numbers are billed separately, for example around $3.99 a month for the UK, Germany or France, and text messaging is not supported on them.
Important limits
The FAQ is clear that numbers do not work for account verification on services such as Craigslist, eBay or PayPal. That rules out one of the most common reasons people look for a second number, so do not buy it expecting to use it for verification codes.
I did not find information about emergency calls on the pages I read. I would always use your main phone number for emergency services.
Porting and cancelling
Porting an existing US, Canadian or toll-free number into Tossable Digits is free, taking as little as four hours for some US mobile numbers and one to three business days for most others. You can also port a number out at any time through support, which is reassuring if you want to keep a number long term.
Cancelling is done from the billing page, with no fee. However, cancelled numbers cannot be reconnected, so port it out first if you might want to keep it. Annual plans are not refunded on a pro-rata basis, which makes monthly billing the safer way to start.
Who it suits
The service looks best suited to freelancers, landlords, small businesses, sales teams and anyone listing items or services publicly who wants calls to reach their usual phone without exposing their personal number. People who mainly need a number for verification codes, or who only expect a handful of calls a year, may find a pay-as-you-go option or a free app more sensible.
For illustration, the $7 Basic plan works out to about 23 cents a day. If it keeps just one unwanted caller away from your personal number each month, some will consider that worthwhile. That is a budgeting example, not a recommendation for every user.
My verdict
Tossable Digits presents simple, clearly priced plans, free porting in and out, and a forwarding model that works with any phone. The verification limitation, the lack of pro-rated annual refunds and the permanent loss of cancelled numbers are the points to weigh. I have not used the service, so call quality, text delivery and support response times remain untested here.
If I were signing up, I would start on a monthly plan, test calls and texts from several networks and decide within a month whether to keep it. A second number earns its price when it quietly protects your privacy every week, not when it adds one more subscription to the bank statement.
