Flooring is one of the biggest visual decisions in a home renovation, and one of the hardest to undo. Buying it online can save money and widen the choice, but it also removes the chance to feel the material, see the colour in real light and talk through quantities with someone at a counter. Villohome is interesting because it sells tile, stone and vinyl flooring online with samples available, alongside furniture and other home goods.

I would start with the room, the subfloor and the total area. Flooring earns its price when it suits how the room is used, arrives in the right quantity and is installed well. A bargain per square foot does little for the budget if restocking fees, freight and breakage turn a small mistake into an expensive one.

What Villohome sells

Villohome is an online flooring and tile shop that also sells furniture, rugs, lighting, appliances and outdoor goods, aimed at both homeowners and trade professionals. Designers and architects can join its Villo PRO trade programme. Examples shown on the homepage at the time included vinyl planks priced around $1.31 to $1.86 per square foot, porcelain pavers around $5 per square foot and large-format polished porcelain tiles around $5.44 per square foot, with trim pieces such as a 94-inch vinyl flush stair nose at $52 each. Check current prices on each product page.

Villohome ships only within the contiguous United States, so it is not an option for buyers elsewhere.

Order samples first

Many products show a “Samples available” badge and a buy-sample button. Colour, finish and texture can look very different on screen than in a room with your own lighting, so samples are the most valuable few dollars you will spend on a flooring project.

Place samples on the actual floor, look at them in morning and evening light and next to your cabinets or paint. If several people will live with the floor, let everyone see it before ordering.

Work out the quantity carefully

The FAQ does not cover how much to order, so measure each room, add a waste allowance for cuts and pattern layout, and confirm the box coverage on the product page. Large-format tiles and diagonal layouts usually need a larger allowance than simple straight lay.

Ordering all your material at once also helps avoid colour or batch variations between deliveries. A second small order weeks later may not match the first.

Returns are expensive, so get it right

Returns are accepted within 15 days of delivery for unused items in original packaging, and only as a full order. The customer pays return shipping and a 25% restocking fee, and custom, container, special-order, sale and clearance items cannot be returned. Refunds are credited within ten business days.

For stone tiles and wall panels sold by the square foot, breakage up to 5% of the ordered area is the customer’s responsibility, and damage must be reported within seven calendar days with photos. Inspect every delivery promptly and keep the packaging until you have checked it.

Freight delivery needs planning

Standard delivery is listed at five to seven working days, with heavier orders shipped by LTL freight and unloaded at the driveway or curb. There is no inside delivery, so plan for people or equipment to move boxes indoors. Rates appear at checkout.

Tile and stone are heavy. Make sure there is somewhere dry and level to store boxes before installation, and that the delivery date fits your installer’s schedule.

Compare the installed cost

Add the material, waste allowance, trim pieces, adhesive or underlay, freight and installation. Then compare the total, not just the per-square-foot price, with a local supplier who may include delivery or easier returns. Online can still win, but only on the full calculation.

For illustration, 300 square feet of vinyl plank at $1.86 is about $558 before waste, trim and freight. A 25% restocking fee on an unneeded extra box is a small but real cost. That is a budgeting example, not a quote.

My verdict

Villohome looks useful for homeowners and trade buyers in the contiguous US who want a wide choice of tile and vinyl flooring at competitive per-square-foot prices, and who are comfortable managing freight delivery. The clear return and breakage terms make the risks easy to understand in advance. I have not seen or installed these products, so quality and colour accuracy remain untested here.

I would order samples, measure carefully with a sensible waste allowance and plan delivery and storage before checkout. The price earns its place when the floor goes down once and looks right for years. In flooring, preparation saves more than any discount.
