The Powder Shampoo Review: Is Powder-to-Foam Hair Care Worth Switching To?

Most of what we pay for in a bottle of shampoo is water, plastic and shipping weight. Solid shampoo bars were the first popular answer to that, but not everyone likes rubbing a bar on wet hair. The Powder Shampoo takes a different route: a dry powder that turns into foam when it meets water, sold in refillable aluminium bottles with compostable paper refill pouches.
I would judge a switch like this on three practical things: whether it suits your hair and scalp, whether the routine feels easy in the shower, and whether the cost per wash compares fairly with what you use now. Sustainability is a good reason to try something, but only if it becomes a habit.
The range
The store sells shampoos for different scalp needs, conditioners and body washes. The shampoos include Strengthening for normal and sensitive scalps, Invigorating for thinning and ageing hair, Hydrating for dry and fragile hair, Exfoliating for loose dandruff flakes and Purifying for oily scalps and limp hair. Two conditioners, Hydrating Volume and Nourishing Repair, and two body foam washes complete the line-up. Mini sizes are offered for every product.
Prices on the homepage I checked were shown in Singapore dollars, from about SGD 15.90 for a 70g shampoo to SGD 19.90 for a conditioner. Your currency and price may differ by region.
Availability when I checked
Every product on the homepage was marked out of stock when I visited. That may be temporary, but it is worth checking before you plan a switch, especially if you want refills on a regular schedule.
How the powder works
You wet your hands and hair, pour or sprinkle a little powder, then lather to activate the foam and rinse. The conditioner is rubbed into a cream between your palms before applying, then left for one to three minutes. The FAQ explains that bottles are deliberately not filled to the top so the powder dispenses properly and stays dry.
Keeping water out of the bottle is the main habit to learn. Powder that gets damp can clump, so the bottle should stay closed between uses.
Ingredients and claims
The main cleansing ingredient is sodium cocoyl isethionate, a coconut-derived surfactant, and the products are described as free from SLS and SLES. The FAQ also says the formulas contain no synthetic chemicals, fragrances or preservatives and are vegan and Leaping Bunny cruelty-free. Those are the brand's claims, and full ingredient lists are on individual product pages.
Shelf life is given as three years from manufacture and up to two years after opening.
How many washes?
The FAQ says a 70g bottle is designed to give up to 70 washes, and the brand claims its concentrates provide up to ten times more washes per unit than liquids. Actual use depends on hair length and thickness. Long or thick hair may need more powder per wash.
For illustration, a SGD 15.90 bottle giving 70 washes costs about 23 cents per wash. If long hair halves that to 35 washes, it is closer to 45 cents. That is a budgeting example, not a guarantee of how long a bottle will last.
Shipping and returns
Orders typically arrive in three to seven business days in markets including Singapore, the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Philippines. Free shipping applies above a minimum spend, such as $30 in the US or ÂŁ35 in the UK. There is no expedited option, and duties are the buyer's responsibility.
For hygiene reasons, standard returns are not accepted. Damage or missing items must be reported within seven days of receipt, with resolutions given as store credit according to the returns page, although the FAQ mentions returns, exchanges or replacements. Bundles and partial kits are not eligible. Buying a mini size first is the sensible way to test.
My verdict
The Powder Shampoo offers a thoughtful plastic-free routine with products matched to specific scalp types and a clear cost per wash. The no-returns policy and the out-of-stock listings when I checked mean you should test with minis and confirm availability before committing. I have not used these products, so lather, scalp comfort and how hair feels afterwards remain untested here.
If I were trying it, I would start with a mini of the shampoo for my scalp type, learn to keep the bottle dry and only then switch to full sizes and refills. A shampoo earns its place through daily use that leaves hair feeling right, not through the packaging alone.
